Gangtok, June 21: The Sikkim government has set a target of planting one million trees during the monsoon season across all 12 districts of the state.

The Forest Department, in collaboration with local communities, will spearhead the plantation drive. The trees will be planted in degraded forests, alongside roadsides, and in other suitable areas.

The monsoon season is regarded as an optimal time for tree plantation, as the rainfall facilitates the establishment of the trees. These trees will contribute to environmental enhancement by purifying the air, maintaining water resources, and providing habitats for wildlife.
